Sean Duffy Endorsed by 7th Congressional District Republicans

1st came the endorsement from Sarah Palin

Yesterday on Saturday, March 6th 2010 came the endorsement from the movement conservatives who attended the 7th Congressional District Republican Party of Wisconsin's annual District Caucus.

In a room filled with no smoke (except perhaps the smoke emitted from Dan Mielke's ears) Sean Duffy was overwhelmingly endorsed by the members of the 7th Congressional District Republican Party. In stark contrast to the NY-23 race in which the RINO Dede Scozzafava was chosen by a handful of party bosses, Duffy (a Conservative Republican) was endorsed by 406 delegate votes (84%) -vs- delegate 78 votes (16%) for Dan Mielke. After several procedural and time-wasting votes, Duffy earned that 84% on the very 1st candidate endorsing ballot.

I had the honor myself to both speak in favor for the endorsement and to cast my ballot for Sean in the endorsement. Just before the balloting when Sean Duffy said he would accept the endorsement the room filled with electricity and many conservative activists in attendance uttered words like "Yesss!" and "Finally!" There was a real feeling among many of the delegates present that the wheels of history were being set into motion. This election cycle, this candidate, Sean Duffy will topple one of the most out-of-touch members of Congress, Dave Obey, author of the failed $787 billion dollar (so-called) 'stimulus' bill.

Dave Obey Visits Merrill - Sort Of

Our story begins with someone calling me and asking me if I knew where Dave Obey would be. I didn't know I said but I would look into it. I live in Merrill in Lincoln County Wisconsin (important background info to keep in mind) and congressman Obey was supposed to appear in Merrill today.

1) 1st I called congressman Obey's office in Wausau, I was first told no and then told their computers were down (sounds familiar doesn't it?) and the lady on the phone could not access the information.

2) 2nd I called congressman Obey's office in Superior (no answer).

3) 3rd I called congressman Obey's office in D.C. which put me on hold for over 5 minutes (I hung up).

4) I called Melissa Schroeder's house (Lincoln Co Dems Chair) and was told they knew nothing but politely referred me to the Wausau office and even offered to give me the number.

5) I called the Vice-Chair's home and got the answering machine.

6) I next called WJMT Radio and they knew nothing either.

7) I then called the Merrill Courier and they also were not told anything about congressman Obey coming to Merrill.

8) I next called the Merrill FOTO News and the lady I spoke to there also had not heard of it.

9) I tried Mayor Doug Williams office and his secretary was not aware the congressman was going to be here.

10) I called 3's Company on a whim because that is where the local Dems meet and the person on the phone didn't know anything.

11) I called a reporter (I'll protect my source) at the Wausau Daily Herald and he knew something but was not at his desk so he referred me to a colleague at the paper and voila! That person told me everything I needed to know - the event was at the Merrill Area Public School Administration Building.

12) I called the Merrill Area Public School Administration Building and asked the operator who referred me to "the person who can help you". I asked that person (an unidentified woman) who said yes it was there (in the present-tense) with a few "education administrators" and I asked if the event was open to the public and she hesitated and said eveyone who was there had been invited.

So the event was by invitation-only. Did congressman Obey rent the room? Were campaign checks accepted? Aren't there campaign finance laws about political events in taxpayer supported buildings like the Merrill Area Public School Administration Building? Why was it not listed on the event calendar?

I'll tell you why. Because after 40 years of breathing the rarefied air of our Nation's Capitol, Dave Obey is out of touch with the majority of his constituents and only feels he needs to hobnob with the people of his choice - to hell with the ordinary folks who elected him. Also as an elected lawmaker, he may feel since he writes the laws that he is above the law.

After 40 years of really good luck (no real serious challenges save maybe 1994) with opponents the hubris that surrounds and pervades congressman Obey's head must be substantial.

David 'Antoinette' Obey Visits Rhode Island

OK, he didn't buy those pearls, but he DID spend significant time with the Kennedys in Providence, Rhode Island's 'Jewelry District'. Yeah, you read that right, while unemployment hovers around 10% in his own District, he is hanging out in bauble-land talking pork. Read it and weep here:

My favorite part of the whole article? The article's first words are Dave's name and job title! No s***!

PROVIDENCE — U.S. Rep. David R. Obey, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, toured four major research institutions in the city’s Jewelry District on Friday along with Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, Mayor David N. Cicilline, Governor Carcieri and other state leaders.

That was the 1st paragraph - and there is more. Here's another great quote,

The purpose of the tour was to show Obey, a Wisconsin Democrat, what federal investment has done to help grow Rhode Island’s research and science institutions and to stress the need for increased federal funding in the life sciences for the state’s economic future, according to Kennedy, who is also a member of the appropriations committee, which oversees the federal budget.

But it does not stop there, read further,

Obey, following the two-hour tour, seemed supportive of the state’s vision. The district is a “solid engine for growth,” he said. “This is a good investment for Rhode Island. We need to be doing dozens of these in the U.S. as a whole.”

John McCain & Dan Mielke - The Truth

A little while ago in an email sent out on November 29th by the Mielke campaign (i.e. - by Dan) Dan Mielke asserted,

"John McCain is known for not being a true conservative. In fact, he was a moderate in many ways. In 2007 & 2008, I fought against McCain regarding the McCain/Kennedy bill promoting amnesty for illegal immigrants. I also strongly opposed his liberal stand on abortion. During his campaign for President, he promised to tote the line on conservative values because he knew we would not tolerate anything less. It did not work. In 2008, I voted for Sarah Palin and not John McCain."

Never mind how goofy that last sentence sounds since Palin was McCain's running mate.

About a week and a half later on December the 10th, Sean Duffy was being interviewed by Pat Snyder and Tom King on 550 AM and a caller named 'Bill' called in praising Dan Mielke and took a swipe at John McCain saying,

"I don't want another Dave Obey with a Republican name. I don't want a Tommy Thompson or McCain or a 'big-tent' Republican. I want a conservative . . ."

Sean Duffy responded saying,

"I'm a true conservative and if you have a concern about John McCain, you should look at the buttons that Dan Mielke had out last year that he distributed throughout the campaign cycle that said, *McCain/Mielke* and he gave them to everyone in the party - so he's tied himself to John McCain. If you believe in John McCain's conservative principles - and I uh, use that term loosely, then vote for Dan Mielke but it's Dan Mielke who tied himself to John McCain with those uh, with those political buttons."

After that broadcast there was some chatter about this among party chairs in the district. Many of us recalled that long before McCain had picked Palin as his running mate, back in the early winter of 2008 when we had our 7th District convention there were piles of McCain/Mielke pins on every table! Sure enough look what has now popped up:

Seems Dan made so many there were at least 2 different types:

Some with thin lettering and some with smaller, bolder lettering.

I wonder how Dan's friends in the Constitution Party will feel about this? I mean Dan said,

So while McCain was running as the pro-amnesty candidate, months before Sarah Palin was on the ticket, Mielke (who says he is opposed to McCain-Kennedy) was pairing himself up with McCain? Does Dan Mielke expect me to believe he is anti-McCain when he spent (presumably) donated campaign dollars or even his own money to make these pins identifying himself with McCain? If Jim Traficant were here he'd say, "Mr. Speaker - Beam Me Up!"

Dan Mielke has lied about his support for John McCain. What else has he lied about?

Can you tell these hippies apart?

In order to cover up for the failure of the first stimulus bill, Dave Obey has just helped pass a more modest (cough, choke) second stimulus bill. But democrats are not calling it that, they are calling it an 'omnibus' bill - one that costs $447 Billion. Congressman Obey also arranged to hand out $11 Billion in earmarks in fiscal year 2010. How does congressman Obey think we will pay for it when his usual partner in crime Speaker Nancy Pelosi killed his war tax?

I mean when Obey goes left of Nancy Pelosi - can he still really be representing central and northern Wisconsin? Dave Obey seems stuck in a rut, his answer to every problem is to tax or spend. He doesn't seem to have much imagination for any other ideas. I mean with guys like Dave Obey around, we'd have more fiscal sanity if Doctor Evil were in charge of the Federal Budget:

I've had the pleasure to have known Sean since 2003 as a Republican Party activist. Sean is a family man who has strong conservative values all-around, especially in regards to the rule of law as well as economics and values. Maybe I'm a little biased having known Sean, but don't you think this is *the kind of guy we need* as an antidote to the corruption, expediency & end-justifies-the-means mentality of Obey & Obama? I sure do.

Obey's Gambit - Raise Taxes To Pay For Afghanistan War

Greeting gentle readers,

Only a guy who feels so secure in his seat in Congress could propose the things Dave Obey proposes. I mean - this is a guy who pitches his own record albums on a campaign website:

1st he passed that $787 billion blunder we now jokingly call the 'Stimulus Package', now while we are in the height of a recession, he decides we need to raise taxes to pay for the war in Afghanistan. There are several good reasons to do this (from his point of view):

1) It silences critics on the right, after all, supporting the troops is patriotic right? Who would not support that?

2) He already passed a $787 billion stimulus bill, voted for national healthcare (TRILLION$) and all that spending is supposed to be "deficit neutral" right? So this is a tax to make sure we don't create a deficit by spending extra on national defense.

Here is the quote that tells it all:

"On the merits I think it's a mistake to deepen our involvement. But if we are going to do that, then at least we ought to pay for it. Because if we don't, if we don't pay for it, then the cost of the Afghan war will wipe out every other initiative that we have to rebuild our economy," he said. "Ain't going to be no money for nothing if we pour it all into Afghanistan."

But don't take my word for it what Congressman Obey's cheif concerns are, read his own words:

"We have spent the last year in Congress debating how we will pay for health care reform, which is expected to cost nearly a trillion dollars over the next ten years. The Congressional Budget Office is earnestly measuring the cost of each competing health care plan, and has had most of Congress twisting themselves into knots in order to keep the health care bill deficit neutral. Shouldn’t it be asked to do the same thing with respect to money spent on the current wars? We have already spent nearly a trillion dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - an effort that’s been paid for with borrowed money - and another ten years would cost about a trillion more. If we keep that up, it will devour our nation’s ability to address virtually any other priority." - emphasis mine

Are we talking about the war on terror or healthcare? It's hard to tell going by Dave Obey's favorite newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle:

"He said the ten-year cost of the war clocks in at $900 billion, about the size of the Democratic health care legislation."

He said?

And that 1st quote came from the 'Health Care Arena' section of Politico. So the image I'm getting is that National Defense (a priority outlined in our Constitution) takes a backseat to healthcare (something not addressed in our Constitution). I got a news flash for congressman Obey - If the Nation is not safe, what we pay the doctor, dentist or our insurance companies won't matter!

That is a 1st principle that goes all the way back to Hobbes, the 1st priority of a nation is the security of it's citizenry. A secure citizenry can enjoy Freedom, a people living in the condition of strife can't.

To put words in Dave Obey's mouth, "If we blow money on a silly war, there will be no money for our newly created and very expensive social programs, especially MY stimulus bill!"

Oh come on now congressman, you are more creative than that, you'll get the money from somewhere right?

Now that's the creativity that made the Democratic party great!

It's not about fiscal responsibility, it's all about finding cover for Dave Obey's fiscal irresponsibility.

Obama, The Recovery Act & Fatigue

Greetings,

Watch this video. In it you find some interesting admissions if you pay attention. The president says the 'Recovery Act' helped "stabilize state budgets" and that in turn helped save the jobs of state employees. Not one word about how the Recovery Act created new private sector jobs or grew small businesses, only that stabilized state budgets, saved state employee jobs and created some infrastructure jobs (temporary road construction) which will go away once the work is completed. In other words, Dave Obey's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was a $787 billion stopgap bill - and that is allowing for the best possible construction. Since the bill really only helped state employees and unions (those road construction jobs) it could be construed as a special interest porkbarrel pay-off. Detractors will say he also talked about Tax cuts - but notice how unenthusiastic he looks when mentioning it as if talking about it were obligatory and he just wanted to get it out of the way. On the other hand, he seems to think that stabilizing state budgets with federal money (the only time he looks really animated) was a worthwhile accomplishment!

Also, did you notice how tired Obama looks and sounds? This is the same kind of fatigue we saw on Jimmy Carter's face at the end of his presidency.

I smell Victory in 2010 & 2012!

Dave Obey Points The Finger At Himself

Now call me crazy - but if I had written a really bad bill I'd do one of two things:

1) Try to fix it to redeem myself

or

2) Lay low and keep my mouth shut

Since I'm not an adviser to Dave Obey and his staff does not seem to be giving him good advice (or he is so foolish himself he isn't accepting good advice, another sign he needs to go) he is out attacking the results of his own bill. Yes, that is right, he is attacking the outcome of his own legislation. I don't know why because months ago he reassured us that mistakes would be made but, "So what" as he said right?

If Dave Obey's projected response was "So what?" then what are we worried about right?

My favorite Dave Obey fix-my-bill-before-the-people-figure-this-out quote comes from the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune:

"The inaccuracies on recovery.gov that have come to light are outrageous, and the administration owes itself, the Congress and every American a commitment to work night and day to correct the ludicrous mistakes," Obey said in a statement issued late Monday.

Translation: How dare the bureaucracy mess up my bill!

The whole thing reminds me of that passage from Holy Writ that says that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. To be sure the only thing that is stable about the economy Dave Obey's stimulus bill created is the rising unemployment figures and rising gold prices that are stimulated by many first-time bullion buyers who think there will be a coming economic crash. A crash caused by the new cap & trade bill, the stimulus bill, the auto bailout and our governments predilection to print money like we are making Lay's potato chips.

Why Obama Could Not Go To Germany

20 years ago something very momentous happened, on November 9th, 1989, people from both East and West Germany crowded atop the Berlin Wall and brought it down to the ground. At the time I was a young man of 23, I had been married for less than a year to my beautiful wife Kristine and it was for me a year of wonder and euphoria. I had grown up in an America that lived under the constant and imminent fear of global, nuclear destruction. I also had grown up a rather lonely child with as many friends as I could count on my hand and was never known as a ladies man in High School. Now it was 1989 and I was married and the world seemed to be entering a new era of Peace and Freedom.

The air was charged with an optimism never felt before, even in popular culture with the song Peace In Our Time by Eddie Money. For many people my age, this was the legacy of Ronald Reagan and there was much animated discussion at the time by pundits such as George Will about how it happened on "Bush's watch" as did Gary Wills later - but Ronald Reagan deserved much (not all) of the real credit while others wanted the credit to go to George H.W. Bush. 20 years after the fact, Bush told Greta Van Susteren humbly that, "...we had a great team working on it, and they all deserve credit." The New York Times predictably gave the credit to the communists:

President Obama recently declined to visit Germany even for one day because he is too busy with an upcoming trip to Asia (he claims) but do you suppose it might be because it is not enough about him? Or could it be that the fall of the Berlin Wall was too much of a statement of the triumph of Democracy and Freedom over Statism? After all, the collapse of the Berlin Wall is the most concrete (pun intended) empirical data you could ask for to show that a Command Economy will fail when left to compete with a Market Economy. This is why in philosophy and political science we call Communism and Socialism forms of Idealism - they only work in your head, not in real life where the rubber hits the road. After all, an 'Idealist' is a person who upon observing that a rose smells better than a cabbage concludes that it will also make better soup and an 'Ideologue' is a humorless zealot who finds fulfillment by spouting the ideas of famous humorless zealots - like Karl Marx and Nancy Pelosi.

And that leads us back to our beloved President who may be an idealist but is also savvy enough to know he neither would fit in at a celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall (because he doesn't really understand Freedom like someone such as Angela Merkel, the daughter of a Lutheran minister who lived under Communism), nor would he want to invite a comparison of his creeping socialist policies to those of the fallen Soviet Union.

Now for those of you without blood pressure issues, watch what Obama did have to say, all 3 minutes and 4 secinds of it:

Not one mention of Reagan, Bush, Thatcher or John Paul II - but he did inject himself and Hillary Clinton into it! What a colossal egomaniac, reminds me of a country song, I'm glad he did not go.

Oh yeah, that so-called stimulus flop you authored (or was it Van Jones? I forget) and that Gov Jim Doyle's appointees at the DWD were supposed to implement.

Word is that Wisconsin's unemployment is the highest it has been 26 years (gee, wasn't Dave in Congress back then too?) and that the number of jobs saved or created by the stimulus package is a bloated number. It would be one thing, I suppose if it had been reported only on FOX NEWS but it has been covered even more by the Democrat-friendly Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal, not exactly a journal of right-wing opinion.

I'd frown too.

After losing the Democratic nomination Duke switched to the 'Populist' party (one of those goofy 3rd parties).

Now for Duke to 1st join and 1st run as a Democrat in the south is completely normal. You see, the KKK was the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party in the south from it's founding. It victimized both 'negroes' and white Republicans. Often klansmen would offer to stop terrorizing blacks if they promised not to vote Republican. Many prominent Democratic lawmakers were Klansmen. Senator Robert Byrd [D-WV] was once an "Exalted Cyclops" in the KKK but later quit. That said, he has made racist gaffes on and off over the years. One of the KKK's primary aims was not just to promote the ideology of white supremacy in and of itself but also to "suppressing Republican voting and running Republicans out of office." But don't take my word for it, compare the party platforms of the Democrat and Republican parties in 1860:

1st I read it here, on a blog that normally covers Lutheran Theology. Then I read more here. Amazing confession. Is it true? According to these blogs:

Some military guys had borrowed a chair from my table. I looked up from time to time to enjoy the sun streaming through. That's when I saw Bill Ayers, an instant blight. Scruffy, thinning beard, dippy earring, and the wirerims, heading to order. I gathered my things, got my camera ready, and snapped a shot right when he got his coffee.

I asked--what are you doing in D.C. Mr. Ayers?

For a moment I thought he might be on my flight back to Chicago. Charming. Initially I guess he thought I was laying claim to his coffee or something. He gave me an uneasy cheesy smile when he realized I was taking his picture. I asked him if he was speaking at GW? (Only I said GFW, guess I had the VFW on my mind) He said oh you mean GW, he said no...was trying to decide if I was a fan, then said he was giving a lecture in Arlington to a Renaissance group on education--that's what I do, education--you shouldn't believe everything you hear about me, you know nothing about me. I said, I know plenty--I'm from Chicago, a conservative blogger, and I'll post this. (Oh, yeah, Bill Ayers, quite the Renaissance man, nail-bomber extraordinaire. Gee, I see another friend of Barack, U.S. Sec. of Education Arne Duncan was there too. "The conference theme is “A Time for Reflection, Celebration and Rebirth.” How touching. At best, useless, at worst, so wrong.)

Then, unprompted he said--I wrote Dreams From My Father. I said, oh, so you admit it. He said--Michelle asked me to. I looked at him. He seemed eager. He's about my height, short. He went on to say--and if you can prove it, we can split the royalties. So I said, stop pulling my leg. Horrible thought. But he came again--I really wrote it, the wording was similar. I said I believe you probably heavily edited it. He said--I wrote it. I said--why would I believe you, you're a liar.

He had no answer to that. Just looked at me. Then he turned and walked off, and said again his bit about my proving it and splitting the proceeds.

But the question remains--is Barack Obama a fraud? Is his myth-making creation and only major accomplishment a product of Bill Ayers' imagination? (or his own) Is our President Barack Obama's biography written by an unrepentant domestic terrorist?"

Scariest thing I have read about Obama yet. Super-scary.

Is there a difference between the organizations 'Mielke For Congress' and 'Citizens For An Open And Honest Government'? Judge for yourself:

So basically, the treasurer for both 'Mielke For Congress' and 'Citizens For An Open And Honest Government' are one in the same, Dan's wife Robin.

So any robo-call, rally, advertisement, etcetera coming from 'Citizens For An Open And Honest Government' is really just another name for 'Mielke For Congress'. Nobody should mistake it for a band of citizens united together for any common purpose other than electing Dan.

I guess Dan figures that a rose by another name will smell sweeter, especially under the well chosen wording of "...paid for by 'Citizens For An Open And Honest Government'" instead of "...paid for by 'Dan Mielke For Congress'".

Nothing wrong with pursuing alternative energy, what is wrong is the Democratic Party picking winners and losers rather than letting the market decide.

Now let me be perfectly clear, I'm not opposed to alternative energy or Green Collar jobs at all, those are something beneficial. What I am opposed to is the Democratic Party putting more and more restrictions in the form of laws (like Cap & Trade - a law passed to make Al Gore rich!) and regulatory rules that will punish energy industries such as oil, gas, coal & nuclear power and pass laws and ease regulations on ones that they favor rather than letting the free market decide.

It is also just plain sinister to manufacture an energy crisis and keep oil prices artificially high by not allowing for more drilling in places like Alaska and off the Gulf of Mexico where EVERYONE who has not been hiding under a rock KNOWS there is plenty of gas & oil!

But instead Doyle & the Democrats pass laws and start initiatives that favor Green Collar jobs over other businesses they don't like:

Keep in mind these numbers are to the best of my ability to datamine the web, they could be even higher. What or who is Farallon Capital Management you may be asking? It's led by Thomas (Tom) Steyer, one of these twisted guys who embraces both liberalism and capitalism. Probably because Steyer is a protege of a Clinton crony, Robert Rubin (of Goldman Sachs fame).

Now as you know, Dave Obey is the member of Congress who put his name on the so-called $787 Billion stimulus (also called simuless, porkulus, etc) bill, heck - even Governor Jim Doyle says so! Well . . . not long ago a group called the Apollo Alliance took credit for it:

Furthermore, Dave Obey is THE AUTHOR of the $787 Billion 'stimulus' bill which Van Jones' group the Apollo Alliance claimed it wrote. The Apollo Alliance and the Aspen Institute are organizations working together for common purpose - to create Green Jobs. Furthermore, the Apollo Alliance has been working with Barack Obama since at least 2005 while he was still only a freshman Senator to bail out the auto industry:

Who Will The Media Anoint Now For Governor?

Greetings all,

Some time ago I said that Doyle was the media's candidate. Well, he was. Now Scott Walker has become the candidate to beat for Governor of Wisconsin. The media is polling and so far Barrett is the best they can do. Milwaukee Mayor Barrett recently got in between 2 people in a violent family dispute at the Wisconsin State Fair and got hit with a crowbar by one of the people and is enjoying some public (deserved) sympathy for his heroics.

But the public only will consider that for so long. Hanging by 2 broken arms for his country wasn't enough for the American people to choose John McCain over Barack Obama. Mayor Barrett will have to separate himself from Governor Doyle just as John McCain tried (but failed) to separate himself from George W. Bush.

It is worth noting that Scott Walker is now the candidate all others are being held up against.

Walker 44% / Barrett 43% Walker 48% / Lawton 43% Walker 49% / Kind 39%

Walker Average = 47%

Democrat Average = 40.66%

Way to go Scott!

They always have to throw in the obligatory qualifier like 'huge advantages' or but, but, but - he has more cash on hand! I guess they have to, I mean he is the Democrat after all, he's their candidate.

I am of the opinion that if Walker is ahead in fund-raising while the economy is down at both the Federal & State level and Walker is relying more on smaller contributers and Doyle is relying more on larger contributers that it won't bode well for Doyle come November of next year. A political contribution is a lot like a ballot and the critical mass favors Walker for Governor.

Some of my favorite parts:

In Sean Duffy and Dan Mielke, Wisconsin Republicans have two very different political candidates vying for the nomination to challenge the 40-year Democratic incumbent in 2010.

Like no kidding! Normally we have these gentlemanly ‘beauty pageants’ where there are no significant policy or personal differences. You often have a choice between a State Senator –vs- a Mayor or something like that. Here we have real contrast in age (Duffy-38, Mielke-55), experience (Mielke-Farmer, Duffy-District Attorney), electability (Duffy-elected unopposed 4 times, Mielke-perennial candidate) and 'style' (Mielke-blue collar/farmer, Duffy-white collar & rural 'good ole boy' jock).

“ . . . Dan is a Republican and he is a candidate. So is Sean Duffy."

And Dan provides great contrast to his ~~brother~~ opponent Dave Obey . . .

"If (Mielke) wants to run in this process, he needs to run a clean campaign," Monson said. "He's attacking me, attacking (people in) county parties. Dan Mielke is out there personally attacking people in different ways. Is that the kind of candidate we want?"

Consider this some free advise (if you are reading Dan) as someone who has gone through campaign school with the MNGOP, the RPW, the RNC & GOPAC – you don’t win elections by tearing apart county party organizations and interfering with their internal affairs. A candidate’s job, his or her J-O-B is to win people over not tick them off everywhere you go, especially party activists who do all the volunteer work.

Great news!

The State Wisconsin Constitution Party has endorsed Dan Mielke

as their candidate of choice to challenge Dave Obey in 2010.

The Constitution Party believes in strong moral conservative values with an emphasis on upholding and defending our Constitution.

Over the years, some have criticized other conservative parties for dividing the conservative vote.

The Constitution Party has taken the initiative to counter this claim by openly endorsing me, a Republican candidate, thus showing that they truly put

I am being challenged this year

On a sad note, I must mention that I do have a challenger on the Republican ticket this year. Apparently our impressive run last year has emboldened others to run as well. Personally, I believe a strong unified effort would have been the preferred approach, but as Republicans we do promote and believe in fair and open elections, so we should accept this as part of our nation’s system and press ahead to a victory. On a positive note, Sean Duffy and I are quite different, and thus offer the voters a choice as to what type of candidate they really want in Washington.

I am personally asking my supporters to keep their support for me clean and out in the open.

• I do not approve of back room deal making in an effort to attempt to eliminate the other candidate.

• My opponent has the right to compete with me fairly and out in the open, so the public can make a free and fair choice.

• I believe strongly that any effort of support for me should be open, honest and before the public. Our differences and backgrounds are open for public view and ok to bring up. I will not condone or approve of trying to hide those aspects from the public. Feel free to mention our differences, promote my values, and explain why you prefer me over Sean.

• Because we are both running on the Republican ticket, I believe that the RPW and the RNC should allow this primary to take its course. I do not support any early endorsement from the state or national party to eliminate a candidate prior to the primary. We claim to be for the people, thus we should practice what we preach.

• I am open to public debates and open forums with my opponents Dave Obey and Sean Duffy.

• I do not approve of causing damage to or stealing of signs, disinformation campaigns, whisper campaigns or any other type of secret manipulation to hurt an opponent. If you cannot say it publicly and out in the open, please don’t say it.

With that said, let me also say regarding Dave Obey and Sean Duffy that I will campaign aggressively. Our nation needs strong aggressive candidates who will stand up for our nation and its Constitution. I will not be a weak candidate.

• I have no problem with openly exposing our differences in character and values.

• I have no problem bringing up areas of concern that I feel could have an impact on our job as Congressmen.

• I have no problem openly and aggressively fighting for what I believe in and openly resisting what I do not agree with.

• I will openly and aggressively tear apart what I believe to be weak arguments and faulty reasoning.

Please understand I am NOT a politician.

• I am an American citizen who has lived and worked in the real world.

• I am not a celebrity or an athlete, but a businessman and a family man who believes the average citizen needs true representation.

Candidate Endorsement–The State Committee leadership debated and voted to endorse Dan Mielke, 7th Congressional District representative running against Democrat incumbent-way-too-long David Obey. Dan joined CPoW at our State Convention. Usually, the decision on whom to endorse is handled by the Campaigns and Candidates Committee, which vetted Dan and found him to be in accord with our party’s platform and the US Constitution, which he will fiercely defend should office. However, as Dan Mielke is running as a Republican, we decided that a vote to endorse him should go before the entire State Committee.

I know that not all of you will agree with this decision or at least will have reservations about it, so maybe these next points will provide food for thought and explain things in detail:

We don’t have to endorse any candidates we don’t choose to. But Dan, a member of this party contacted me and as chairman, I work for the membership so naturally I took his request under advisement. Another point: Dan took the initiative to contact us; he didn’t expect us to contact him.
To be endorsed by our party you MUST be a party member. Membership conveys to the State Committee and fellow members that you agree with our platform. Had Mr. Mielke not been a member and proved, not just said, but proved to us he agrees with our platform, that would have ended any talk of a possible endorsement right then and there. The membership requirement is a protection for our platform I heartily support and will NEVER want to remove. It’s our party and we have a responsibility to protect it the way we feel best so it can continue to be an uncompromised tool for liberty.
Dan had to be vetted by the Campaigns and Candidates Committee just like any other candidate. We don’t support just any warm body for office. If the C & C Committee hadn’t liked Dan’s answers to their vetting questions, that would have ended the endorsement too.
Remember we did at one point have a candidate for the 7th congressional district in Rob Taylor. But after heard Dan Mielke was running, he freely decided to run for US Senate as a CPoW candidate instead so he wouldn’t bleed votes away from a constitutional conservative. Rob’s choice works fine for us. And I would say as Mr. Taylor vouches for Mr. Mielke’s character so we have that protection as well.

Democrats Behind Closed Doors Budget

Once in a while the mainstream press gets it:

Our view: State residents, Republicans left out in the cold

An excerpt:

The Democratic-controlled Legislature put the final budget together, essentially in secret, then brought it up for a vote. It passed without any Republican support. Minority lawmakers were unable to make any changes.

Republicans, of course, cried foul. But if roles were reversed and they controlled the Assembly and Senate, they likely would have done the same thing. We know how politics works.

The disappointment stems more from the inability of the state's leaders to find a balance. At a time of economic crisis, when even state workers are on furlough, spending increases in the state. There are no general sales, income or payroll tax increases in this budget, but despite Doyle's promise to protect the middle class, taxes and fees will hit the wallets of state residents. From monthly phone fees to additional taxes on cigarettes, people will pay more.

Yes, once in a while even a newspaper editorial board in a left-leaning congressional district like mine calls a spade a spade.

But back to the Doylocrats, some of the taxes that have just been raised in Wisconsin are really appalling:

The monthly tax on every nursing home bed has doubled from $75 to $150 per month starting July 1, 2009 in the plan introduced by Governor Doyle. The bed tax will rise further, to $170 per month, in July 2010.

The Democrats care for Seniors? Gimme a break!

And even though the people of Wisconsin have overwhelmingly spoken against 'Gay Marriage', we are going to give benefits to domestic partnerships in this year's budget. The 2006 Wisconsin Constitutional Referendum was decided 59 to 41 %. The referendum ALSO banned civil unions and domestic partnerships which means that what the Doylocrats have done is unconstitutional (and therefore illegal) according to the Wisconsin State Constitution - not that that has stopped them before but I'd like to see the WisGOP show some guts and take this one to court. So far J.B. Van Hollen has been defending the initial ban referendum results of the 2006 election cycle. It would be nice to see this budget blunder taken on as well.

Ciggy taxes will go up $.75 a pack, I admit I'm not too excited about that one but I am opposed to it in principle because I just hate tax hikes period. Since it is mainly blue collar and poor people who smoke you have to wonder why they keep voting for the Doylocrats. A pack-a-day smoker will pay another $5.25 a week or another $273 a year now in taxes.

Oh, and the 2009 Wisconsin budget has over 100 earmarks! That's right ONE HUNDRED earmarks costing over fifty million dollars, that's right, over $50,000,000.00!

But wait! There's more! You own a cell phone? Have garbage pickup?

Yup, if I committed this kind of piracy to the taxpayers, I'd do it out of sight too.

A Hollywood Liberal Who Is TIRED Of Obama!

In case you haven't heard, Bill Maher is getting tired of Obama-mania.

Now you have to wade through his swipes at Bush, Cheney, McCain & Limbaugh which are unpleasent but he (who voted for Obama) is getting sick and tired of Obama's celebrity image - in short Maher - who is a comedian wants Obama to act like a serious leader and even gives a few backhanded compliments to Bush's clear leadership skills,

"And we need to marry the good ideas Obama really believes in with that Bush attitude and Bush certitude. I'd love for Obama to come out one day and say, "Jesus told me to fix healthcare." Or, "History will decide whether stopping the polar ice caps from melting and drowning us all was a good thing."

In conclusion, Bush was a jerk, but he never cared about being seen having a burger with Dick Cheney. He picked up the phone in the White House and said, "I'm the president, bring me a burger." And they'd say, "Sir, this is NORAD. Would you please stop ordering burgers with the red phone?"

Maher may be a anticlerical, obnoxious Hollywood bigot but he has 'moments of clarity' from time to time and this is one of those rare moments where the fog lifts and a few rays of common sense break through.

Coleman Franken Fight Still Dragging On (Go Norm!)

Yes, they are stilling battling it out like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots in Minnesota:

Coleman recently was ordered by the court to pay part of Franken's legal fees to the tune of $94,783 - ouch!

What makes the race key is two things:

1) First and foremost - Coleman was the original winner by about 700 votes and then Minnesota law kicked in giving Franken the right to an immediate recount - but a win is a win and how do you go from being 700+ ahead to 300 behind?

2) If Franken is seated, Obama, Pelosi and Reid will be an unstoppable train wreck of runaway big government. Republicans in the Senate will loose any power to filibuster which is the sole tool of the minority to stop bad legislation. A filibuster can be invoked with a 2/3 cloture vote. Than the liberal monster will be set loose!

State Board Dismisses Palin Ethics Complaint
It was the 13th ethics complaint filed against the governor or her staff
that has been resolved with no finding of a violation of the state ethics law,
the governor's office said Wednesday.

The liberals have filed all kinds of law suits to harass her and damage her politically but the truth has a funny way of coming out.

So far, the reporting on this has been pretty sparse, even by the conservative media, pretty sad.

Greetings,

Computer viruses suck. What is even worse is that many freeware programs hawked online that are alleged to 'cure' your virus contain malware (malicious hidden software) or spyware (software that monitors what you do and sends messages to an unauthorized 3rd party) as well!

But after several weeks of battle with both my desktop and laptop PCs, I have reformatted both hard drives, reinstalled Windows and all my old software and am back up online with no more malware or Trojan horses.

For years I had been lulled into security by always using whatever Norton / Symantec's most powerful program was at the time. No longer. I had a healthy reality check when I chatted with a Symantec customer service person who said I would have to fork over $99 for help in manually removing the virus. Isn't that what I forked over $100 for when I bought the software? I asked. He did not have a good answer for me. I also used Yahoo's anti-spyware program that comes with the Yahoo toolbar - which sometimes caught (and removed) Trojan Horses that Symantec missed, not bad for a freeware program!

For my desk top I used a Windows program recovery disk and even after doing that, there were still traces of the virus on my PC. I did some fishing around online and discovered a company called Paretologic which sells a number of computer software programs that did a nice job of filling in the gaps and removed everything else. 5 programs cost me about $50. My desktop computer has now regained much of it's old speed and eficiency. All I lost was all my old emails (and address book). I had emails going back to 2005 on my desktop PC - no more!

My laptop is another story, I tried to do a repair on it but I had to do a full reformat and reinstallation of everything from scratch. I had to burn 50 CDs to back up what I wanted to save off of it but that only cost $17 for a pack of 50 CDs at Walmart.

That's all I have to say about this in this very unpolitical post, I'll make the next post more political.

That is like the whole city of Milwaukee + Oconomowoc roughly.

Religious Liberty Update

As I understand this bill from my sources, mere participation in the aforementioned 'volunteer' program would then prohibit a young person from participating in a lot of other outside programs including Church.

I must apologize, I am way behind the curve on this one. The bill became law just today, it is called the 'Serve America Act' now, previously called Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education. It is an expansion of the Americorps ( www.americorps.gov ) program where college money from the government is exchanged for government service. The person who alerted me to all this was a bit johnny-come-lately on this and so I am too. The Senate version (S 277) already passed and today Obama signed it into law. Section 132A of the new law forbids funds going to any entity that is:

Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of proselytization, consistent with section 132.

So the above paragraph is already law and I bet many or all of us did not know until today.

A companion bill (not yet passed into law) HR 1444 would make this 'volunteer' service mandatory. So the bill is law and we are too late to stop that but we can attempt to stop HR 1444 and whatever it's Senate version maybe:

‘(C) partisan political organization;

‘(D) nonprofit organization that fails to comply with the restrictions contained in section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, except that nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to prevent participants from engaging in advocacy activities undertaken at their own initiative; and

‘(E) organization engaged in the religious activities described in paragraph (7), unless the position is not used to support those religious activities.

‘(9) Providing abortion services or referrals for receipt of such services.

‘(10) Conducting a voter registration drive or using Corporation funds to conduct a voter registration drive.

‘(11) Carrying out such other activities as the Corporation may prohibit.

‘(b) Ineligibility- No assistance provided under this subtitle may be provided to any organization that has violated a Federal criminal statute.

‘(c) Nondisplacement of Employed Workers or Other Volunteers- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not be directed to perform any services or duties, or to engage in any activities, prohibited under the nonduplication, nondisplacement, or nonsupplantation requirements relating to employees and volunteers in section 177.’.

The Wausau Tea Party

Greetings,

Overall it was an excellent event. In downtown Wausau they have a park which is a large square of grass - very old-fashioned, small-town America. I have not received the official headcount yet but I have heard estimates of 1500 to 3000 people. Not bad considering all the other Tea Parties around the state. Normally these things always happen in Milwaukee and Madison but not the Tea Party, there were Eight (essentially 1 per congressional district), 2 of which were in my own congressional district.

If people who went to the Wausau party took away nothing else, it is clear that congressman Dave Obey must go. Obey is the sponsor of the stimu'less' (also called porkulus) bill. He has been in office since the 1970s and he must go. One of his top contributors is one of Nancy Pelosi's top givers. He recently got caught steering pork to a relative (his son) as well. How are those for 3 good reasons to vote Dave Obey out?

Need a 4th reason? Obey said the bill wasn't big enough. Need another reason? Nobody read the bill that Dave Obey and Barney Frank (YES! Barney Frank too!) stuffed like a thanksgiving Day Turkey full of pet projects.

Something tells me that after years of smooth sailing to reelection it won't be so easy for Dave Obey this time.

Congress Has Finger In The Wind Again

Not too long ago Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa said this,

"The first thing that would make me feel a little bit better towards them, if they had followed the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, "I'm sorry," and then either do one of two things, resign or go commit suicide."

Now when I first heard this I said, "Yeah, right on!"

But then I got thinking, "Where was his outrage when the Democrats spent a TRILLION dollars?"

What is all the outrage REALLY about? Glenn Beck seems to get it:

It's a magician trick, "Look up here at the card in my hand (while I do the trick over here with my other hand)."

Watch the AIG guys get this bonus in the millions while Congress spends a TRILLION dollars. Now I must admit, the outrage over what the AIG guys got away with is completely legitimate. Bonuses should be given based upon positive results, achieved performance, etc. Bonuses given - 'just because' and especially at taxpayer expense is ridiculous, obscene and immoral. Period. That said, what Congress did today was an extra-constitutional grab of power. I don't care if someone has an 'R' or a 'D' after their name when they do that sort of thing. Two wrongs do not make a right. Our Constitution says you can't pass a law in the present to prosecute what happened in the past. That is akin to changing the rules in the middle of the game as sports people would say. It also sets a bad precedent for contract law. The AIG people should simply be shamed and shunned into giving back the bonuses as some already have. Not every problem requires a legislative or judicial solution.

I have not always been a fan of Jim Sensenbrenner, but he did the right thing today by not voting for the AIG bonus tax. All the other reps of both parties for my state blew it. Minnesota's GOP delegation had more backbone. Only Steve King [R] of Iowa voted no, Melissa Bean [Dem!] of Illinois voted no, ditto for Thad McCotter [R] of Michigan.

That's my gripe for the day, have a great weekend people - after all, it is the 1st day of Spring, thankfully government can't take that away, regulate it, tax it or otherwise fowl it up. The changing of the seasons is what it is - a gift from God.

Paul is right in that we should ignore things that - well frankly, empower the left and have no constructive outcome. David Frum had wrote a column that was just as thoughtless as it was thoughtful where he compared Rush to Jesse Jackson. I don't always like Rush's tone myself but comparing Jackson to Rush is like comparing apples to oranges.

Rush certainly has had problems with his weight, with prescription drugs and with marriage but he has never, ever exploited his position as a de facto leader within the GOP to shake down businesses on behalf of conservatives as Jackson has for the left (especially himself). Every penny Rush has made has been through normal means such as book sales, fan paraphernalia, commercial sponsors for his program, etc. Things Jackson hasn't succeeded in at all. You can disagree with Rush over style or tone (as I certainly do often) or on finer points of policy but while Frum made excellent observations about all that is wrong about Rush, he did so in a magazine that is habitually unfriendly to Republicans and other conservatives (Duh!) while congressman Ryan chose the better part of valor, like a typical midwesterner and is politely ignoring it (remember Ronald Reagan's 11th commendment?) and focusing on solutions instead.

Thanks for showing leadership Paul. Ideas matter more than bombast and spin.

A Fitting Metaphor

Greetings,

Recently it warmed up here and all the snow melting meant water in the basement. When we settled here in Merrill, this house was our 3rd choice. When the snow melts or when we get a heavy rain we get water in the basement. Naturally this occurred right after our warranty with the previous owners expired hmmm . . .

Back onto topic though, part of the problem is the driveway pavement is landscaped in such a way that the water runs off toward the house rather than away from it. Also when the gutters were installed, the spout lets the water out right next to the house. Ironically enough, one selling point about this house was that it had a DRY finished basement!

When the last election cycle was up I found myself (as county chairman) stuck with a 4x8 foot John McCain sign and our storage unit is too small to house it. The state party didn't seem anxious to get it back and the McCain campaign was not returning my messages so in my garage it went. I knew that sometimes people run again (although in John's case I doubt it) and we have often altered signs in the past by repainting them, etc for other uses.

Well, the drip, drip, drip coming off my gutters was just about 8 feet wide and THAT gave me an idea:

With the current housing mess we are in thanks in part to Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Obama & ACORN and keeping in mind the 1 Republican who saw this mess coming was none other than John McCain - I feel if this gets back to John, he'll find it an appropriate metaphor as today my basement is staying dry (we cleaned up the water yesterday) thanks to having the McCain sign blocking the drip, drip, drip of my fairly useless gutters on my poorly sloped driveway.

The bad news though, we have a winter storm warning that we are about to get another 6 to 10 inches of fresh snow. Right now I wish we had gotten those 4 signs we were promised so I could block off more of the house. Makes me think of how we could use more Republicans in the House and Senate again - to stop the oncoming storms and drip, drip, drips of the Democratic majority's policies.

An appropriate metaphor indeed.

The Stimu'less' Bill is Unconstitutional!

From here on in BTW, I'm calling the current bill the stimu'less' package because it is less 'stimulus' and more SPENDING on bureaucracy!

But anyway - recently a little known provision has been found in the bill that is unconstitutional, that is, if you still believe in the 'Free Exercise' clause of the 1st Amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

According to FOX News:

"The provision bans money designated for school renovation from being spent on facilities that allow "religious worship." It has ignited a fury among critics who say it violates the First Amendment and is an attempt to prevent religious practice in schools."

So that would mean for example, NO MONEY for a Catholic or Lutheran parochial school or any denominational college or seminary.

The article further says:

"According to the bill, which the Democratic-controlled House passed despite unanimous Republican opposition, funds are prohibited from being used for the "modernization, renovation, or repair" of facilities that allow "sectarian instruction, religious worship or a school or department of divinity."

So I guess that would include hospitals too, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Jewish, etc. All those facilities have chapels right? What about little towns like mine in the upper Midwest that ONLY have ONE hospital which happens to be owned by the Catholic church?

So much for Obama the 'Christian' President and so much for the Catholic case for Obama! I wonder how many people were suckered by that liberal PAC?

Of course this is not a bad thing necessarily, when F.D.R. was President, the Supreme Court struck down the worst parts of the New Deal. Perhaps once passed this bill or parts of it can be challenged in court and summarily struck down . . . hmmm . . . food for thought.

“The American people want a plan to stimulate the economy and bring their jobs back. They cannot afford a trillion dollar scheme to use their hard-earned tax dollars to take care of the Democratic leadership’s friends and family...”

Amid doubt that his nearly trillion dollar "stimulus" plan would do much to help the economy come reports that House Approriations Chairman Dave Obey may have improperly pushed some of the pork in his son’s direction.

According to news reports, questions surround more than $2 billion for the National Parks Conservation Association – an organization whose chief lobbyist is Obey’s son, Craig Obey.

“As our country discusses the best plan of action to get the economy moving again, the mere appearance of impropriety is a drain on taxpayers’ confidence. Spending a trillion dollars of the taxpayers’ money is a dangerous action to begin with. Pork or pet projects have no business being included,” said Mark Jefferson, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

The $2 billion Obey included for his son’s association would be a huge windfall for a group whose yearly budget is $2 billion. The wisdom of directing any money there as part of a jobs creation act is debatable; however, there are also questions of how the group would even be able to spend the money fast enough to make a difference. The Senate bill allows $802 million for the same group.

“The American people want a plan to stimulate the economy and bring their jobs back. They cannot afford a trillion dollar scheme to use their hard-earned tax dollars to take care of the Democratic leadership’s friends and family,” said Jefferson. “Obey’s constituents and the taxpayers across this country deserve better.”

Those of us who live in the 7th District always knew he was involved in these sorts of things but he has finally gotten called out on it in the national media for once.

What Dave Obey has done along with what Rod Blagojevich has done illustrates the difference between Democrats and Republicans on 'Family Values'. When Republicans say, "Family Values" we mean ethics and morals, when Democrats say it they mean 'sending something of value to my family like a favor, a job or a government contract'.

A few years back at a Republican event I was at one of our Republican congressmen said to me, "Jim, there are really 3 political parties in Washington, the are Democrats, there are Republicans and there are Appropriators." He went on further to say how both Republicans and Democrats often changed after spending several years on the appropriations committee. Well, according to U.S.News & World Report,

"Nancy Pelosi may be the top House Democrat, but Obey, as the party's top appropriator, is in the center of the action, with direct sway over the power of the purse."

Who is Dave Obey's top contributer? Farallon Capital Management located in San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi's district. Thomas F. Steyer, a senior partner at Farallon Capital Management, gave $1,000 to Nancy Pelosi and $5,000 to her PAC.

It seems clear to me that when you connect the dots and follow the money, the desires of San Francisco, not Northern Wisconsin, are driving Dave Obey's agenda and he is only looking out for #1.

Update On Meriter Hospital - Abortion Related Story

We've proved once again that the multiplied power of one really does work!

Yesterday at the noon press conference at the state capitol, the pro-life coalition that is working to stop a plan to have the UW-affiliated Madison Surgery Center do abortions on unborn babies as far along as 22 weeks gestation, announced that we were presenting over 20,000 signatures to Meriter Hospital, the UW Hospital and Clinics and the UW Medical Foundation!

Wisconsin Family Council collected over 6200 of those signatures! The thanks goes to every person who took time to sign the petition and to send it to others. If you were one of those, know that your efforts are paying great dividends--and that it was my honor to represent you at the press conference yesterday.

All the groups circulating the petition did a great job--and that type of cooperation and coordination reminds us that when we work together on these types of issues, things happen! In this case, we sincerely hope and pray that it will result in thousands of babies being saved from the atrocity of a truly untimely and cruel death. Regardless of the outcome, we know that everyone has worked hard and pulled together--and the organizations considering this atrocious plan know we've been busy.

The press conference was excellent! A number of individuals spoke, including 2 doctors, one of whom uses Meriter Hospital for his practice, a couple of current patients of the involved hospitals and clinics, representatives from the organizations in the coalition, and Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend).

Following the press conference, representatives from Wisconsin Family Council, Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Right to Life, and Vigil for Life took boxes of the signed petitions and delivered them to the administration at Meriter Hospital. We told them we'd be sending more in the days ahead! So, if you haven't signed the petition yet, it's not too late! Click here to sign right now!

We know the UW Hospital and Clinics board will meet next Wednesday, February 4, to consider this plan and to get input from people on both sides of the issue. We are not sure when the UW Medical Foundation, Meriter, and the Madison Surgery Center boards will act on this proposal. Stay tuned for future updates.

In the meantime, there are still at least two things you can do to make a difference on this life and death matter:

1) Pray that God will intervene and work in the hearts and minds of the decision makers.
2) Attend the rally this Saturday, January 31 at the Library Mall on the UW Madison campus. The rally starts at 12:15 and will be concluded by 1:30. The Library Mall is at the end of State Street (heading away from the capitol), between Lake and Park Streets. Parking is available in the Lake Street ramp. Please join us for this important event!

Cost of Stimulus Legislation: $825 billion

$335 million to help prevent STD's (give rubbers to poor people for free) was part of it but got pulled when it got held up to the light of day (average Americans found out). Pelosi defended it saying contraception is good for the economy. Well, maybe in 'Frisco where they are used as frequently as Kleenex and Tylenol but the rest of America is a little more reserved. I guess for Pelosi, subsidized condoms would be 'pork' in more way than one.

President Obama has said that his proposed stimulus legislation will create or save 3 million jobs. This means that this legislation will spend roughly $275,000 per job. Average household income in the U.S. is $42,000 a year - between 1/6th and 1/7th of that amount. While reading the 647 page bill, I noticed there are some very large sums for buaeucratic 'Inspector generals' and their staff:

Department of Agriculture—Office of Inspector General’’, $22,500,000.

Department of Commerce—Office of Inspector General’’, $10,000,000.

Department of Defense—Office of the Inspector General’’, $15,000,000.

Department of Education—Departmental Management—Office of the Inspector General’’, $14,000,000.

Department of Health and Human Services—Office of the Secretary—Office of Inspector General’’, $19,000,000.

Department of Homeland Security—Office of Inspector General’’, $2,000,000.

You get a real sense of Democratic priorities here when Transportation gets 10 times more than either the Department of Justice or Homeland Security, nevermind the original idea for $335 MILLION for rubbers! The party of Clinton still live on, only the deck chairs appear to have been rearranged.

Seriously though, what we have is a government jobs bill that grows the government bureaucracy. Not one that builds roads or bridges primarily (the typical Democratic staple) but one that fills desks with people pushing paper and generating red tape. I mean, if the average American family earns $42 K, why do we need to spend $275 K per person? For the 6 to 7 bureaucrats per normal citizen who will administer it?

There is also $75,000,000 - that's Seventy-Five M-I-L-L-I-O-N dollars to help people quit smoking. If I go to opensecrets.org, will I find that hypnotists were major contributors to the DNC or what? Who stuck that one in there? Now quitting smoking would be a good thing for plenty of people but should the government spend that kind of money on it? Is the prescribed method known to be highly effective? Is this really government's role?

Obama's (Cough, cough) Stimulus Plan

IT'S CHRISTMAS IN JANUARY!

It really boggles the imagination but basically while past stimulus plans gave tax breaks to individuals (who spend it) and businesses (that creates jobs/employment) this stimulus package mainly grows the government bureaucracy. This bill reminds me of the 1994 Crime Bill which was loaded with pork like midnight basketball programs.

Big winners: education, labor and government workers (rewards to unions):

Infrastructure
$30 billion: Transportation projects
$31 billion: Construction and repair of federal buildings and other public infrastructure
$19 billion: Water projects
$10 billion: Rail and mass transit projects

Education
$41 billion: Grants to local school districts
$79 billion: State fiscal relief to prevent cuts in state aid
$21 billion: School modernization ($15.6 billion to increase the Pell grant by $500; $6 billion for higher education modernization)

The Obamas' (Barack & Michelle) stance on abortion may cause a health care crisis. Not long ago the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops decided if it is a 'choice' between keeping hospitals open and being forced to perform abortions - they will close U.S. hospitals - 12.5% of all U.S. hospitals. in all 50 states. Obama - The 'Youth' President - Not So Fast

Everybody says Obama appeals to young people - maybe some but not all. When I picked my kids up yesterday from school - the younger kids had to watch the inauguration but older kids were given a choice. My oldest (14, 8th Grade) who HATES Math chose to do her math rather than watch Barack Obama get sworn in. I would not have minded it if she had watched, I personally watched it til noon (as an observer, not a celebrator) but I am happy that with only 1 avenue of protest given to her she exercised her right to abstain from watching - made me proud!

Locally John McCain lost by about 2,000 votes here but while we had about a 1/2 a dozen teenagers going door-to-door for the party here, I never saw any young people going door-to-door for the local Dems.

If the economy tanks and Obama raises taxes and spending, his 'Coolness' may bring a much more lukewarm response 4 years from now from children and parents alike.

Mixed Feelings About Today

Today will be a historic day as America has it's 1st African-American (or 'Black' if you prefer) President sworn in. As someone who admires the Abolitionists and the role they played in the Republican party, as someone who is the descendant of a Union soldier and who has a relative who was involved in the civil rights movement in the 1960's, I feel that today is a watermark in our nation's history. That said I have mixed feelings. As a Republican activist (I am the county chairman in my area) I supported John McCain and the GOP by working 30 to 40 hours a week in our headquarters and did much door-knocking and literature dropping for the party, spending time away from my family and my business to get John McCain and Republicans up and down the ticket elected. I was then and am now very suspicious of Barack Obama's associates. 1st Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, now the 'politicos' Blagojevich & Burris.

As one could predict, Michelle Malkin is positively verklempt over Barack Obama becoming the 1st Black President. I offered her these words of comfort,

"My President Is Black? Well, sort of. What we have here is a classic example of the "Free Rider" problem - the free rider problem exists when people enjoy the benefits of government provided goods independent of whether they pay for them. Barack Obama is neither a Republican (the party that freed African slaves and had the 1964 Civil Rights law built into it's platform since the 1860s) nor is he a descendant of African slaves. Thus he is not part of the political party which gave 'blacks' freedom & equality nor is he related to anyone who suffered under it. Barack Obama is a 'Free Rider' reaping all the benefits and having paid none of the cost."

An interesting irony indeed is it not? History is full of them.

For now, his supporters and others momentarily taken with our new President (including some conservatives with their brains caught in the headlights) will swoon and be charmed but it won't last forever. Right after the media elected Bill Clinton it tore him (and Hillary) down. Obama has some really big challenges like gracefully bringing our troops home from the Middle East without emboldening terrorists and doing as little harm as possible to the economy. Quite frankly, even a milquetoast Republican would have better solutions because he would have the correct ideology to fix our current problems and would tread very, very carefully. Barack Obama will have to completely chuck liberal ideology in order to fix our current problems and his voting record suggests otherwise.

What we need now is more Adam Smith and less John Maynard Keynes. We need to make deeper tax cuts, drill more here in the USA, maintain a muscular foreign policy, maintain and build a strong intelligence community, keep our military strong, and have social policies which favor the traditional family.

One idea whose time has most certainly arrived is the end of all race based preferencial policies. If Barack Obama can win in Iowa and across the nation (my home state of Wisconsin included) then it is time for the politics of race to be dismantled. My generation was raised to be tolerant and inclusive and my children even more so. The 1964 Civil Rights bill should stand but all preferential policies should be repealed. The Republican Party has always favored equality of opportunity, just not a forced equality of of outcome. For example:

Second—The guaranty by Congress of equal suffrage to all loyal men at the South was demanded by every consideration of public safety, of gratitude, and of justice, and must be maintained; while the question of suffrage in all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of those States. - 1868 Republican Party Platform

Third. Complete liberty and exact equality in the enjoyment of all civil, political, and public rights should be established and effectually maintained throughout the Union, by efficient and appropriate State and Federal legislation. Neither the law nor its administration should admit any discrimination in respect of citizens by reason of race, creed, color, or previous condition of servitude. - 1872 Republican Party Platform

Here you can see the Republican Party from it's inception has always favored the policies which eventually came to their natural culmination in the 1964 Civil Rights Act . . .but somehow the Democratic Party took the credit because Kennedy was assasinated and LBJ passed it as JFK's legacy even though he needed a substantial number of Republican votes to pass it because most southern democrats would not.

It is noteworthy that a much more qualified candidate lost to one with far more charisma. In laymens terms, the majority of the country was far more comfotable having a beer with Obama than McCain. This means the old barrier of 'race' while no longer a barrier. There may be lingering sentiments of racism, but it is with a minority of Americans because many Americans (myself included) voted for McCain not because of race but because of political ideology and therefore the number of people in this country who voted against Obama due to race is now the minority - and that is how it should be because racists are brain dead and the idea of race-based inequality is both un-American and un-Christian.

My other misgivings about Barack Obama were aired following the election and so I won't repeat those here. But lastly I will say that we seem to be heading back to big government - i.e. - Socialism and that too is both un-American and un-Christian. Some will say those are loaded things to say but America is a capitalist country because capitalism is consistent with individual freedom and personal responsibility. When we give up those political virtues, we cease to be American. As for being un-Christian, socialism is premised on faith in the state rather than the providence of a caring God who created us and watches over us. To trust in the state is to trust in man and that is why you can never have 'socialism with a friendly face'. Socialism always will lead to totalitarianism.

So while Barack Obama may be a historic figure as our 1st President of African descent, he may be clinging to policies which are frankly, inimicable to Americanism and belong on the ash-heap of history.

I am back from my post-election hiatus and ready to write on the right again. Pun intended.

1st off, Thank you President Bush. America has been safe for over 3000+ days. After eight years of the slackest security standards in the history of the country as well attested by government servants such as Gary Aldrich, Edward Timperlake and William Triplett II - President George W. Bush and his team reestablished security at home, rounded up the bad guys, overturned two dictatorships and took the fight to the enemy rather then sit back and wait for the enemy to strike us.

As a typical Wisconsin snob, lately as I have watched the news over the last month all I have been able to say is, "Typical Illinois" while watching the Blagojevich scandal unfold.
